2021 Montessori School Resolution: Getting Back to Normal!

This upcoming year, I have a different set of hopes for our school. 

My 2021 Montessori school resolution: getting back to normal! 

2021: Where Old Normal Meets New Normal

The Old Normal seems like a lifetime ago! It’s how we used to do things before COVID-19. 

In 2021, though, The New Normal may remain all the rest of this school year. What does that mean for our children, teachers, and you? Well, no changes to begin. But, at some point, we may return to Old Normal or adapt a mix of Old and New Normal.

With that in mind, here are key 2021 Hopes and Resolutions: 

• First and foremost, ALL our students return to Lifetime for the January thru June terms
• Children and parents rebuild ‘at-home and out-of-home family, school, and social routines.

From there, a core hope is that all LMS community members get vaccinated this summer so we can put COVID behind us.

As a result, we hope to return to Old Normal events like:

• Re-opening after-school enrichment programs like dance, music, and art
• Re-starting physical education for our elementary Grade 1-6 students, and allowing
• Students from different classrooms return to playing together.

Although there are many questions and few answers today, we hope the perfect vaccine is available so we can all be ready for the Fall term this September. We’re told that children will have two separate vaccinations and that the process for wellness will take at least two months. Since we’re vaccinating children, we’ll take things slowly until we’re sure everything works well.

2020 Protocols Will Remain in Place

Similar creative celebrations will still be in fashion for 2021 like video chats with family; friends near and far; outdoor playtime with people in our pods; and, online travel adventures until we’re safe to do otherwise. At school, we will maintain the same safety protocols like washing hands; wearing masks; retaining socially distanced dividers; conducting daily EPA-approved fogging; and, disinfecting all surfaces after use. Like you, we look forward to a post-COVID world where The Old Normal and The New Normal forge a workable hybrid mix. Our foreseeable future offers promise and perhaps new routines to incorporate that will achieve a stronger school and community
