For the Love of Art

Let’s talk about the love of art!

We want our students to love color, size, shapes, lines, and textures. We hope they learn that art is one of many creative outlets, which is fun too! It can get messy, and we can make mistakes, and it is ok, and there is more than one way to be creative.

Art engages children’s senses in open-ended play and develops attention span, problem-solving skills, and other cognitive social-emotional skills such as observation, freedom of choice, thought, and feeling.

Benefits of art for our children

  • Promotes creativity.
  • Encourages neural connections.
  • Builds fine motor skills.
  • Scribbling is a precursor to writing.
  • Develops problem-solving.
  • Helps understand themselves and their world.
  • It helps them to connect.

In our Montessori environments, art focuses on the process and allows the child to experience art on his own terms truly. Children are born naturally inclined to art. In our active classrooms, coloring, cutting, and pasting is part of the daily routine. Displaying your child’s masterpiece motivates them to create, develop and experiment with art. We hope you enjoy it as much as your children have by making them.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”  Pablo Picasso
