Before a child enters the primary environment, they have already begun exploring the world through language by learning the language around them. The child will learn many words and perfect their sentence formation; they hunger for words, knowledge, and information. Therefore, language should be a part of everyday life for your child. The speech organs are formed around the sounds unconsciously heard in the child's environment. The construction of personality and character occurs when the child can communicate with others.
Main Purpose of Language
To help your child develop their personality and help express themselves and communicate with others verbally, writing, and reading.
Self Confidence
- Conversing and having a dialogue is essential in which your child feels someone is listening to them.
- Your child should have the opportunity to express themselves very early.
- Please provide your child with the names of everything that exists around them. (Enrich his vocabulary)
Spoken Confidence
Don't just include naming objects and relationships between objects but also focus on vocabulary, word categories, grace and courtesy, and stories.
Spoken language is given to build confidence, to be able to communicate, to express themselves, and to have independence. (Helping the whole personality of the child.)
Sandpaper Letters
- To give the symbols of the sounds (visual, tactile, auditory senses).
- Children tend to be cognitively ready to compose words before their hands are ready to write.
Exercises that Help to Write
- Indirect sensorial- Pincer movement, cylinder blocks, geometric cabinets, botany cabinets.
- Indirect Practical life- polishing, washing table, punching paper, the process from left to right.
- Metal insets- beautiful handwriting, they perfect it.
The writing process typically comes before the reading process for most children. However, once a child can successfully build words, then reading activities are introduced.
After a complete 3 or 4-year cycle in a Montessori environment exploring the world through language, most children leave the primary classroom reading. These activities give them a strong foundation and love for reading and writing that they will carry for the rest of their lives.
